With all the painting I've been doing I haven't had a chance to play with my dishes in "forever", let alone think about them. I wanted to share the tablescape I did for Valentine's Day in 2009. Originally I didn't have the water mark on my photos, not sure why I put the wrong year, could it be I have paint fumes in my head? For those new to the blog I hope you enjoy the setting for two, for my new friends in England part of this is for you.

~ Finally It Snows ~

We finally have snow! Yippee Skippy! I was really beginning to wonder if we would see any of this white stuff this year. It is gorgeous... from the inside out! :-) We had so much the last 2 years everyone around here was pretty tired of the white stuff. I love to see all the beautiful formations that come with the snow fall, the magic that develops with each snowflake.

Miss Scooter made her rounds outside first thing, didn't last long, she's one spoiled pup. She doesn't care to get her feet wet.

For all of you traveling to work or other destinations, please be cautious, they say the roads are slick.

Dreams are just that, dreams. For years I've dreamed of owning a Red Volkswagen convertible with a white interior. Driving down the highway with the top down, radio blaring and my hair being blown back.

OK, I'm way past the age of having the radio blaring, a gal can dream can't she?

Although this little beauty sets on the bookshelf of my office, goes to show you dreams do come true. :-))

~ Going Green ~

Well hello there, please come on in....

Last Summer I painted the sunporch, gone is all the nasty wood tone. A lot of work, the rewards are high. The wood as you know has been a pain in my back side for a very long time. In the perfect world I would have sheet rock walls, guess we don't live in a perfect world, plan of action took place, paint color chosen work began.

I fell in love with the color Apple Green almost 5 years ago, I've been wanting to use it for the longest time. I had purchased new drapes that were red and gold plaid, the apple green color was out of the question at the time. While cleaning the windows I discovered the drapes were a tad more worn than I realized. Yippee Skippie!! They had to go I could finally paint. :-))

New vignettes began to appear.

Many things got shuffled around, and new grids on the wall began to form. My intention was to show the room in total completion. Then I realized, Lynne you are "never" finished, share your fun room. As you can see this wall isn't anywhere near being completed. I have in mind what I want to put on the right side of the picture, the fun is in the chase, finding just the right thing. You can view the "nasty" yellow colored walls here. Man alive what a "huge" transformation.

Sorry for the dark picture, I just couldn't get a decent shop of the sweet little table at the far end of the room. I'm thinking of replacing this table, again have something in mind. Time and money will tell if it comes home with me. I'll keep you posted on the status of all that.

When the transformation of the sunporch began, I knew I wanted to kick it up a notch or two. This sweet lawyers bookcase had been in the office, all over the office for many years. I got it in my head it needed to come upstairs to this room. I love the way it looks and the flow it gives the room. Filled with decorating books related to gardening, and collections of tea cups and more.

The sofa was purchased a while back while working at the other gift shop. Folks I worked my tail off literally to be able to bring this cutie home, the picture of the rabbits was gotten there as well. You all know I "love" rabbits. I fell in love with this picture and knew it would be perfect in my home.. as you can see the right side isn't finished out either. Again, I know what I want, running across it at my price will come in time.

The large picture hides the electrical box. You know those unsightly gray boxes we all have. I love the frame, not crazy about the picture, so when the right one comes a long I'll do a switch-a-roo do.

This sweet little corner is just inside the back door, the area is small and handles a lot of traffic. I searched for a long time for just the right size table to hold the dog treats. You all have one of those don't you? Honestly our dogs are so spoiled we have 2 of those areas. :-)) Anyhoo..... after the hunt wasn't producing the right size table I decided to use the black pedestal. I was a tad concerned the glass jar would get knocked over, so far no accidents have occurred.

I have quite a few of these large heavy metal pieces, some I've used elsewhere. This one reminded me of the shape of a dog biscuit, so thought it was the perfect fit for the corner.

Hi everyone, It is hard to believe it's the end of January and we've hardly seen any snow. I hope I didn't just jinx us! Right now they're saying it's a gorgeous windy 54 degrees... absolutely beautiful outside.

I'm still busy organizing everything in sight, painting, placing orders like crazy for the shop, tax season is in full swing, clients are coming in right and left, and at times laying my head down for a short nap. The painting is coming along, although a slow and tedious job. Lots of nail holes to fill and "tons" of furniture, heavy furniture to move. I'm definitely getting my work out in.

Some would call this nesting, I'm not sure what you call it, I just know I have energy to burn and see lots of projects that need to be completed. There hasn't been one area, (except for the garage) that hasn't been touched, that's only 'cause it's been just a tad too chilly for my little 'ole body to be out there working on all that mess! LOL

My love of silver has taken on a whole new dimension, I've pulled out pieces that have been stored away for years, using them in different manners than they were intended to be used for. For years the salt and pepper shakers by the stove were clear with a light baby blue lid.. GHASTLY, now that I think about it.. I know I'd only had them for almost 24 years.. guess I don't get in a hurry to get rid of things huh? (they officially were cleaned up and went into the garage sale box, they'll go to someone's home that will love them as much as I did). lol

Yes, I finally caved and bought a new set of salt and pepper shakers, I gave $2.97 for the set. Now I ask
you, why hadn't I done this years ago? Setting the pair on the silver edged glass dish, is so warm and welcoming to me.

Such a simple change made a huge difference in the way my little counter looks each day to me. :-))

~ A Million Dollar View ~

With the mild winter we've had there have been many afternoons spent outside enjoying walks with the dogs. As I look South I'm always in awe of the beautiful lake we're fortunate to have. Mr. P built it almost 13 years ago, you see that's what he did for a living. He played in the dirt, built terraces, structures and cleaned brush out of fence rows for the local farmers in our area.

Murphy always tags a long when I'm outside. For a stray he is just the best dog, a lot of company on those long afternoon walks.

Although the bridge is weathered and showing it's age it brings me lots of smiles as I remember the day we put it across the small pond Mr. P built for me (under protest), oh how he grumbled about putting this in the front yard, and then stood back and beamed with pride at his work.

Waiting for the slightest breeze to make the fins go round and round with the squeaking sound...

Praying the Red Bud tree produces lots of flowers this year.

Before heading back in for the evening I take one last look at our Million Dollar View....looking forward to warmer temperatures, green grass and yes.. just maybe an afternoon or two spent down on the dock throwing the line in to catch a few fish. Until next time...

~ More Projects Than I Can Count ~

I know I've been MIA the past few days, I've been snowed under with a "ton" of projects. You see I don't tackle one area I tackle many at a time. I try the first of every year to get a handle on all the clutter and disorganization around here. There's no one to blame but little 'ole me. Usually I'm pretty good about putting things back in their specified spots...not so much the last couple of years. I've gotten very complacent, watch me fly now 'cause I'm on a roll. lol

In the shop I'm so fortunate to have these beautiful glass front cabinets, they house many things from fabric, a few dishes, things for the shop, and just ~~junk~~ I mean treasures.

Making a bigger mess

It's got to get better right? I forgot to take pictures of all the washed shoe boxes that have been relabeled. Then of all things, yes you got it; the label maker ran out of labels... grrrrr. What can I expect? I made A LOT of labels. lol So that means another trip to Walmart this evening, or I could have finished up that end of things. Always something huh?

In the midst of all the organizing I've started painting. Many of you know the yellow colored wood hasn't set well with me for awhile now. First coat not so pretty....still a huge improvement.

There we go 3 beautiful coats. I hope the pictures show off the beautiful brown tones. I am soooo in love with it. I have a "very" long way to go. All of the shop on the North side will painted this beautiful color, Buffalo. Lots of holes to be filled and sanded, it will be so worth all the hard work. A clean updated look.

Along with all of that I've been redoing some tabletop vignettes and wall displays. I'm sure you're thinking this girl must be nuts to take on so many projects at one time. Maybe... Call it nervous energy.

On another note, many of you know Mr. P has several health issues. We had an incident Monday evening, thank the Lord there are no after effects. Today is another good day. January has certainly started off in the worst way around here. We continue to take each day as they come, I use to say I took it an hour at a time, now it's a minute at a time. Remember life is so short, remember to hug the ones you love and tell them you love them.

~ Cleaned Up the Look ~

Now no one likes to show their grit and slimy bottles. I've seen around blog land for a while now there's a lot more attractive ways to leave our dish washing soap on the counter. I've been wanting to try it for a while. Mr. P doesn't welcome change very well right now so have been hesitant about changing out the bottle. He hasn't noticed yet, we'll see if I'll be able to continue using the new addition.

Washed off many times a day it's still YUCKY looking.

To the right you can see hanging in the wings is the new bottle I'm going to try.

See the difference? An attractive label free clear bottle.

An Olive Oil Bottle filled with dish washing soap, much more attractive.

Another small change is the addition of the silver tray to hold my candle and the daily calendar. The calendar has been around for many many years and is definitely showing it's age, should be replaced. But the memories it holds is priceless, so it got a place of honor on the silver tray.

We're in the deep freeze around here today, temps are now in the teens, wind continues to blow the little bit of snow we got last night. Winter has decided to hit the Mid West.

~ Enjoying Our Fall Like Weather and Cardinal Beauty ~

Hello everyone, I know it's been a while since I've posted. I've been busy do a lot of organizing, pitching and revamping of things in the house. I've made "tons" of progress. I know many of you share all the details, guess if I was a better blogger I would think to take those before shots. Unfortunately, my brain doesn't work fast enough, I think of taking pictures after the fact. I'll have lots to share with you on all of that soon, I hope you'll keep checking back to see what I've been up to behind the scenes.
In the mean time we've had some great January weather, almost fall like outside. The dogs and I have shared many afternoon walks. They say this afternoon that is suppose to change to more winter like temperatures, I don't mind really. Not wanting a repeat performance of last winter's snow, I wouldn't mind seeing just a flurry or two.

Last Sunday I finally got the bird feeder out. Mr. P spends a lot of time at the kitchen table looking out and enjoying the birds dropping in for visits. I've tried for a very long time to get some decent pictures of the cardinals that stop in. Standing inside looking out I was lucky enough to get these shots.

The way I was holding the camera it appears as though the birdbath looks like it's leaning, I promise it's not that crooked.. lol

Thanks for stopping by today. I'm off to open the shop and check in all the new Spring items arriving daily. Yah! Looking forward to transforming the shop from after Christmas folly to some Spring beauty. I'm hoping inside those orders are the finishing touches for the dining room. Like bubbles in a glass our lives can change just as quickly.

2011 has been a roller coaster ride for us along with many of you. It has brought many changes, coping on a daily basis is challenging to say the least. Through out the year I've thought of putting the blog to rest, to let it sleep and dream of happy times when the blog began. However, if I do that there wouldn't be a journal of my passion for decorating. I've always tried to keep the blog a happy place, not dwelling on everyday issues. Living those most days is not easy, the hard stuff is written in my daily journal. I know the New Year is going to bring even more challenges, my goal is to meet each and every one one of those as graciously as I can.
I want to thank all of you for your support through out the year with your visits and wonderful comments as well as emails. They truly mean the world. The blog has allowed me to make new friends and grow existing friendships over this past year.
So.... for 2012 I'll continue to share my passion for decorating on the blog, I hope you'll come along in the New Year to see what we'll be up to.

With all the Christmas inside and out put away, I've been making a few changes. They've been in the works for a while now. There are still a couple of things I've got to put together before the big reveal. I wanted to share a couple of hints to wet your appetite. :-))

The clouds have been around it seems like forever. A drizzle falls outside and temps are dropping, are we going to get the snow they're predicting? Just in case I've got the sled out and ready to go.

I've wanted a pair of ice skates for the longest time, I found these on Etsy, in my size almost like new blades polished and ready to go. OK, we know better my ankles couldn't take ice skating, but in my mind I'm sailing across the ice.

A cast iron plant stand holds pine cones Mr. P and I gathered over 30 years ago in a park in Atlanta, Georgia.

The top of the antique ice box holds the small aluminum tree courted by the vintage snowman. Adding a bit of bling the silver tray holds red ornaments.

It's been so cloudy getting good shots has been difficult. This guy sits inside a lantern, holding his broom ready to shovel the snow.

Let's turn on some light... On either side of the table I hung wreaths with black and cream bows.

This is the last of the trees around our home. I started this tree 11 years ago right after Bailey was born, it's taken on a lot of different looks over the years. After putting up the tree this year I got to looking around and have decided the tree is too small for the size of the room. I'll take it apart this year, and look for something a tad bit larger for next year, anyway that's the game plan..

Mr. Santa was a gift from a friend about 18 years ago, I haven't used him in years for one reason or another. This year the base of the tree called out for both the sled and Santa.

~ The Christmas Table ~

Early last fall I was shopping in the city and ran across these beautiful set of dishes. Goodness only knows I did not "need" another set of Christmas dishes. I was looking for something a bit more grown up. lol
For the centerpiece I gathered the Mercury glass candlesticks. To add some texture I added the greenery and a few pine cones.

The red stemware was purchased at Walmart many years ago. the darling glass with the sleigh came from the Dollar General.

Outside the snow is falling...

The antlers were given to me this last weekend. I felt as though I had won the lottery. You see we had a set in the barn, I went to get them and they "disappeared". We've asked everyone that comes and goes around here if they had seen them, anyway, long story short; this guy happen to have 2 sets he was willing to share with me.

Red cardinal salt and pepper shakers I believe came from Target.

~ Vintage Ornaments ~

The count down is on, Christmas is just around the corner, I have a couple more vignettes to share with you, then before you know we'll all be sharing Valentine vignettes. I'm sure many of you are already planning ahead for those.
I've had this glass "flower" stand for many years, once green I sprayed it black last summer. I've envisioned all summer seeing it filled with vintage ornaments. I thought I might get lucky and find a few in the antique store I try to visit occasionally, no such luck. So..about a month ago I was checking on Etsy and found some I could afford. I would like to add just a few more, but for now I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

I remember seeing these as a child on my Grandma's tree, oh how I wish I had some of those. I would give anything to know what happened to them.

Makes me smile...

This little cutie reminds me of the old kaleidoscope we played with as children. Did you have one as a child or still have it? I know you can find them in stores now, they just don't have the same effect for me as they did when I was small. :-)) It was more of a magical world then.

I placed a felt runner with a Snowman down to add some color to the cream colored coffee table top. ( I forgot to take pictures of the darling Snowman on the runner) you'll have to trust me he is cute. :-))
I've had the Apple Creek Cider bowl for a few years, the boy and girl statues were finds this year at Walmart on clearance. The little guy is holding a bunny and the girl a puppy..

Iced picks and red berries with a bit of greenery fill the bowl.

Topped off with a large pine cone.

To finish off the vignette the grandson added the red ornaments. I love the shiny and satin patina against the silver.

~ Silver in the Living Room ~

I purchased the sofa table many years ago specifically for this half wall. On the other side are the stairs that lead to the office, and shop. I would love for their to be spindles and a beautiful railing instead of the "half wall". Just another one of those many things added to the "want" list. Looking at these pictures I realized I "need" a picture on the back wall. Do you ever do that? Critique your areas and realize they need just a "little" something else? Looks like another item just got added to the "want" list. :-))

In years past I've decorated in reds and golds. This year I decided to bring out the silver. I purchased the trees a couple of years ago, they fit in perfectly with the silver and red theme.

I love glass compotes full of Christmas ornaments. The mercury glass ornaments are vintage, been around a very long time.

The faux snow softens the hard scape of the glass and adds more interest.

Guess I could have mixed a few of the red ornaments with the silver, quite frankly I love the simplicity of the mercury glass.

My collection of magnifying glasses has grown over the years, they are through out the house in many vignettes. I love the patina of the handles. The mix of metals along with the blue makes the tabletop vignette exciting and fun. I love using items that touch my heart when putting together a vignette.

~ 'O Christmas Tree' ~

Hi everyone, I hope you've had a fabulous weekend. Can you believe Christmas is a "short" week away? Goodness it has crept up so quickly this year.
I thought I would share some photos of the main tree in our home. I had planned something else for this post, that will have to happen just a "tad" bit later.

In the past Mr. P has always put the angel on the tree. As Bailey says we have traditions and that happens to be one of them. Due to Mr. P's health he's no longer able to put the angel on the tree, so we moved on to plan B. I made 2 large bows out of silver and white ribbon for the topper, a new tradition begins. Many years ago Mr. P requested doves for the tree. He normally doesn't say a whole lot about any of the decor in our home. He just grins and bears it. :-)) I searched one whole fall many years ago to find the white doves. They've taken front and center for almost 28 years now.

A gift from the grandchildren.

~ In the Meadow ~

Hi everyone,
I thought I would share the last bit of Christmas in the kitchen. I've enjoyed changing things up this year and scaling back. I've discovered I'm able to enjoy each little area and vignette a whole lot more.
The top of this cabinet is not real large so I don't load it down with a lot of things. The lamp is a staple along with the books, I enjoy changing out the other decor as my moods change. And we all know that's quite often. lol

I've collected cloche domes for quite sometime, I keep telling myself each time I pick one up to put it down, I do NOT need any more.

This little guy reminds me of my Bailey. He always has a smile on his face and sweet eyes.

The vintage look.....

On the other side sits this beautiful marble top baker's rack. With all the pictures of the Santa's I've been sharing, you knew I wouldn't leave my Snowmen out.

I have a full set of dishes that go with this darling platter. My girlfriend and I purchased them many years ago, I believe from Gordman's.

The weather man is saying we "might" have snow next week, with Christmas around the corner I'm like this snowman, "Let it Snow".

You might remember this Santa from a few years back, the bottom was broken out of it, I worked for quite sometime putting all the pieces back together.

I love his sweet face and gentle eyes.

What does one do with all their Christmas books?

Please grab a cookie and a cup of something hot.

Yes, you decorate with them of course. Putting the book on the easel gives it more presence. I added the silver tray adorned with greenery and a pop of red berries.

I love the reflection of the tree lights in the picture and the dome.

Cup and saucer by Johnson Brothers holds a few cookies for you to snack upon.

~ Snowmen and the Hutch ~

Each year I bring the snowmen out it's like meeting up with old friends. Bringing up old memories of when and where I bought them. Then the fun begins of where I'm going to place them. The old kitchen cupboard a gift from Mr. P. many years ago is always fun to decorate for the seasons.

This year these guys took center stage on top. The lantern was a fun addition a few years, ago. The lop sided top gives it a bit more character.

I love the patina of old dough bowls, I've collected a few over the years, I find them to be great decorating tools. Last fall this bowl held apples, now a few pine cones and iced bells. This says winter to me, if I get a tad lazy I could leave it out all Winter.

The small tree has been around for a very long time. I didn't get around to spraying the vase black before the weather changed, it's on the list of things to do when the weather warms back up.

~ Laundry Room Vignette ~

Our guests enter our home through the back door that leads into the laundry room. I'm fortunate to be able to decorate the top of the washer and dryer. I've used the iced ornaments and greenery for years, to add more lighting I've mingled clear lights here and there. The runner I chose is bunched red and white toile. I apologize for these pictures being a tad on the dark side, if I turn the over head light on they are way to bright, I chose to go this route.

Need to charter a special flight this winter?

Plenty of room, hop aboard.

Hi everyone, I hope you've had a fabulous weekend. It's been wonderful around here, almost late Fall like instead of winter like. No complaints trust me. It was gorgeous.

A small white pumpkin set a top the silver compote bowl. Now an iced red ornament.

My love for snowmen go way back, I have my favorites I pull out each year, This year scaling back I really had to pick and choose the "most" favorites. lol

I love this guy because of his stately base..

~ A View of Some Christmas in the Kitchen ~

In years past I went over the top with the Christmas decor on the hutch, I had a ball putting the vignette together. This year I scaled the Christmas decor way back. I wanted just a hint of Christmas here and there. Truth be known I love my blues and didn't want to have to put them all away. So... I mixed in a tad on the bottom shelf.

I chose my favorite Snowmen for the vignette, notice the little guy is dressed in a blue jacket, funny how it all co-ordinated huh?

Such happy faces.

This snowman even carries a package all wrapped in blue.

Every child and snowman needs their very own Christmas tree.

The base of the tree is wrapped in a small burlap bag. I wanted to hide the base without adding a lot of greenery, thinking outside the box I chose a cream colored cup to sit the tree in.

Another favorite of mine holds the bright shiny star....

So there you have a bit more Christmas in the kitchen. Are you finished with your decorating? I have a couple of places to tweak here and there, then I can sit back and enjoy the house all dressed for Christmas.

A few years back I put together the Pheasant tree in the Dining Room. Mr.P and my daughter thought I had lost my mind. They know I'm deathly afraid of birds. These beauties stole my heart and the tree took on a life of it's own.

Pheasant feathers became the topper.

Pheasants fly around the top.

The quest began to find ornaments that fit the tree.

In years past I didn't include the ribbon, having this left over from another project I thought it would add to the tree.

I have to admit figuring out a centerpiece for this tablescape was a bit of a challenge. I decided with my love of books, candles and dog figurines this was a perfect choice. What would you use as a centerpiece?

OK, we know dogs don't use flatware, the table seemed a little under dressed with out any. :-)) I'm sure they would love a bit of hot chocolate in their own little mug.

Every dog deserves a "special" treat for the holidays. Around here Mr. P thinks Miss Scooter deserves a treat just "because". lol

~ Picture Inspires Mantel ~

When you begin your decorating, do you already have a picture in your mind how it's going to turn out? I'm always inspired by all of your talent. Recently while doing some cleaning, putting away and re-organizing I remembered this beautiful picture. It belonged to my Aunt Mary and was painted by a friend of hers. I'm ashamed to admit I've never hung it in my home. This year I was inspired by it's beauty, the background of the mountains of Montana with the large pine trees reaching for the sky.

Those beautiful trees got my wheels to turning. I wasn't going to decorate the mantel in the kitchen, Mr. P uses it at times to grab onto when he gets up from his chair. He graciously said he would try to be careful not to knock anything off. Bless his heart, he really could care less if anything is decorated and has put up with my passion for almost 34 years now. ;-))

My love of silver has taken over many areas of our home. The darling bud vase has set on top of the refrigerator, I needed a bit of height and something to hold the darling glass ornament.

When I got the reindeer I wasn't quite sure where or how I was going to use them. Once I started on the mantel they just seemed to work perfectly with the rest of the decor.

Yes, I took pictures and realized I had a hole and needed to fill it. lol. The Santa quickly came to mind. A perfect fit don't you think?

So.. this picture was the catalyst that set the wheels to rolling to put together the mantel in the kitchen.

A few years back this Santa was running rampet through out blog land. I first spotted him over at Phyllis' blog.
Phyllis always has some wonderful eye candy for us to admire. If you haven't stopped by, you must treat yourself to a visit. You won't be disappointed. You can go HERE for a visit to her beautiful blog.
Last year Santa had his own tree in a silver bucket, I haven't pulled that tree out just yet, I'm not sure I'm going to, if you would like to see last year's version you can go HERE.

Wouldn't you love to have this handsome Santa helping you bake your cookies and candies for the Holidays?

He comes with his own tools, doesn't say much, I'm sure he doesn't even leave a mess behind.

His Gingerbread house has lots of gumdrops he's scattered across the roof, if we look around I'm sure he's left plenty for us to nibble on while we watch him work his magic.

His apron has been made by a great designer using only the finest of rickrack for trim along the edges, to say nothing of the beautiful monogramming on the pocket filled with a yummy Gingerbread cookie.

We all know Santa has big feet we try to fill each year.

He even filled it with a small Christmas tree all decked out with pine cones and cherries.

If Gingerbread isn't what you're wanting help yourself to some M&M's.

Or a few Candy Kisses.

Christmas isn't Christmas without a few Candy Canes.

An antique Spooner holds a few Gold Silver Dollars, they'll be hidden around the house Christmas Eve, one lucky person will take home a Real Silver Dollar, the rest will have to settle on eating Chocolate. :-))

~ Adding Some Christmas to the Sunporch ~

Hi everyone, I hope you're having a super weekend. We're having a rainy one in our part of the country. Perfect for putting some more Christmas decor around the house.
I finally gotten around to adding a few things in the Sunporch. I've had the basket now a couple of years, it is so much fun to decorate for the seasons. Last years was full to overflowing, you can see those pictures HERE. I enjoyed looking back at some of those decorations myself. Isn't it fun to reflect?

I poured through the Christmas greenery trying to use what I had, adding Christmas greenery, snow capped picks and red berry picks.

The original arrangement didn't have a bow. After taking pictures I felt it lacked something. Having some of the black and cream colored ribbon left I made a bow popped in it, stood back and said, "WOW" ! I was delighted with the change the bow made.

I've had the snowed capped picks for over 5 years now, stored properly they'll last for a long time. These still look brand new each time I pull them out of storage.

The sweet chair is very near and dear to my heart. It belonged to My Betty, a dear friend of mine who came to live with us and lost her battle with cancer. She's been gone 7 years now, I miss her so much, having the gifts she gave me brings up fond memories and helps ease the loss of her presence. I think she would be pleased the chair is used for decorating to greet our guests. :-))

I've had the half bucket for over 10 years, it's floated from the kitchen to the laundry room to this area. Don't you love moving your decor around each year?

I sold the candy canes in the shop about 3 years ago, they've been stuck in the half bucket ever since. lol

I love pillows! I love the softness of them, the whimsy, and naturally the finishing touch it can put on a vignette. This darling little thing is actually 2 placemats I picked up at Dollar General about 10 years ago. I purchased 14 that day. Yes, I can hear you gasp, they were 75% off, I gave $3.50 for the lot. You see I had projects in mind. lol. Some of them are used for tablescapes, I made a runner with a few and a couple of pillows.

I sewed the 2 longest ends together, made button holes, went through the stash of buttons, and Voila' instant pillow. Pretty cute huh?

~ The Office Gets a "Touch" of Christmas Cheer ~

Hi everyone, How has your week been? Have you been as busy as I have? I cannot believe it's Friday already, this week has flown by.
Today I'd like to share some Christmas Cheer I've added to the office. In years past I've "never" added Christmas in the office. While sitting at the desk the other day I noticed the rattan basket coffee table lacked a bit of cheer, so I got busy and put together this vignette.

I've had the black tray for years, it's floated from upstairs down. I like the way it grounds the decor on top of the basket, the mix of colors and texture adds some excitement.

You know I love to use blues around my home, I've had this blue and cream compote for years; perfect for the tabletop vignette. :-))

I've scaled back quite a few of the tabletop vignettes this year. Are you one of those that's scaled back or are you going over the top with your decorating? I love the iced Santa with the children, reminds me of when grandchildren were small.

If you can invest in some of the great greenery that's out there I highly recommend it, the quality is so much better than it was a few years ago. I've had this straw like Christmas pick for many years now, I just pull it out fluff it up and it looks brand new. I wanted just a bit more fullness to the arrangement so I popped in a couple of my picks dripping in snow. I love adding touches of nature, feathers are one of my favorite work horses, I use them whenever and wherever possible.

Using old books is another favorite work horse of mine. They're great risers for your smaller pieces along with adding interest to any vignette.

I love the smell of a great candle while doing book work, reading your blogs or putting mine together. The scent is relaxing and the flickering flame mesmerizing.

Even the desk got just a "touch" of Christmas Cheer. Using Christmas candies is a great and easy way to add Christmas to a small area.

Yes, of course help yourself to some candy, I put it out just for you.

For those of you that came to the Open House you might remember the outside table set up to welcome you. I love decorating the outside for the Holidays. With our cooler temperatures and the weather doing a drastic change there won't be any dining outside. I thought I would share a few close ups for those of you that didn't come by for the Open House.
I love the use of burlap as a tablecloth, adding the velvet ribbon adds another texture. The soft feel of satin cushions along with fine linens spark some excitement.

Mixing china pieces make a tablescape exciting along with fun. Last year I used the same dessert plate, the red and white plaid speaks Christmas to me.

All of you know I'm over the top with anything animal related. The small pup reminds me of Miss Scooter always waiting patiently for Mr.P. The plate is peaceful and serene, it's only need is a piece of Chocolate cake. :-))

Do you prefer coffee, tea or possibly hot apple cider for your drink? The curvy handle of the cup sits gracefully upon the worn edges of the saucer ready for your drink of choice.

I just recently started layering napkins. After viewing many of your blogs I realized the layering effect is fun and adds more excitement. It also made me organize all of those napkins according to colors and seasons. lol
Pulling the napkin through the silver napkin ring pulls the table together. Although it doesn't show well the charger is silver, had to add a bit more bling. :-))

For the centerpiece I used the hurricane globe with the candle on a timer. With all the winds we've been having this was the logical choice. The reds and greens on the foiled covered Santa's flow nicely with the red in the napkin and red and green plaid of the dessert plate.

~ The Powder Room Gets A Grown Up Look ~

It always amazes me when I look back through pictures and wander why on earth I had not changed things out sooner than later. Most times dollars are an issue, it's not that my mind doesn't work in fast forward, I think we just get complacent and let things slide, anyway I'm finding lately I do that more times than not. There are just too many other things that have to be taken care of before my wants and desires. Do you ever have those types of issues?
When I was preparing for the Open House this year I realized the powder room definitely needed an update. Come along I'll share a few of those changes.

Quite a while back I had done a lot of faux painting, and when I say a lot, I do mean a lot, every room in the house had fauxed walls except for the kitchen. My girlfriend and I got our heads together shared some paint to cut on costs and I got busy. I went with Mary Carol's Front Porch, a light shade of blue. Now folks, this is way outside my comfort zone. I'm more of a jeweled tone kind of gal, I prefer soft taupe's, and greens.. so going with this light shade of blue was a true shock to the system.

Notice the wood walls to the right of the picture? Yes, you got it, same wood I have in the sun porch. That's a story for another day.

A country style mirror, there's nothing wrong with country style, just not the look I had in mind, so the mirror had to go as well. I got busy searching on line it seemed like for days, finally ran across one only to discover it wouldn't get here in time, so back to shopping with vendors, Yah!!! success I found the perfect mirror.

The sweet little table was a garage sale find many many years ago, I gave $3.00 for it and another similar one. I love this sweet little drop leaf. It's one of those great floater pieces, floats from one room to another, looks like it might have found it's forever home in the downstairs powder room. :-))

Ta-Dah!! All blue, wood and all, I'm so glad the wood is covered, the room seems to be more uniform now.

I'm still trying to decide what to hang on the wall to the right. I'm not sure why there is so much yellow in these pictures, I hope you over look that little issue. I pray it is not my camera, I just cannot handle one more oops this week.

At the opposite end is the utility sink, a small work table and the hot water heater. I use to do a lot of painting when I was traveling with the crafts, the utility sink came in quite handy for washing out brushes, the side table great for laying things out to dry. The side table got a good sanding and a fresh coat of white paint. The white curtain hiding the hot water heater is actually 2 twin sheets, the cost was $6.00. A lot cheaper than buying fabric, cutting and hemming all of it. All I had to do was turn the top down, make a pocket for the rod and I was good to go.

Not to leave anything untouched, I added the lamp and a small dish full of ornaments with a bit of greenery as a welcome to those using the powder room during the Open House. I love to mix textures, the wow factor is amazing.

Remember this is a basement powder room, and I'm working on a very "slim" budget. I didn't like the exposed pipes, so I pulled the small shutters out of the stash of goodies, stood them up and voila' most of the pipes were covered.

With a full shot you can see the area to the left of the sink is pretty good size. I forgot to take a picture of the paper towel holder that use to sit here, keeping with the silver theme I chose the silver tray to hold the hand towels.

I've wanted to change the sink out many times over the years, and just never enough dollars to go around, so I made a cute little skirt to cover a multitude of sins, like pipes and a few cleaning supplies. Cost was just a few dollars for the black ribbon, fabric was a gift from a friend a few years ago.

Voila' !! The grown up mirror. I absolutely love the powder room now, oh rest assured I could still change a few things, those are in the back of my mind, and are the one day list.

~ Chocolate and Oranges ~

Hello everyone, I hope you had a fabulous weekend.

The Chocolate covered ottoman in the front room is always a fun area to decorate. Last year I used the Chocolate Santa in the same area, just a different setting. You can see those pictures HERE. I love to reuse my favorites in different ways.

When I started decorating the silver tray I used this beautiful vintage green dish. I liked it, then realized I needed a larger bowl. With the size of the tray I felt a little more presence was needed.

Shopping the house I remembered this beautiful dish that normally sits in the entertainment center bookshelf in my office.

I've had the Cinnamon Clove Oranges for many years, I knew this year I wanted to use them in this area of our home. Adding a few pine cones and greenery put the finishing touches on a beautiful bowl.

I like to leave things out through the Holidays that have personal meaning to me. After all that's what Christmas decorating is all about isn't it? Bringing memories to the surface to make you smile and make your heart sing.

I brought the small silver cup in from the kitchen, added the crystal orb for a bit of bling. :-))

~ An Annual Event ~

Hi Everyone,
Are you all still stuffed from your Turkey dinners? Did you survive the "crazy" shopping on Friday? Many around here left early Thursday evening and didn't get back home until late on Friday. Don't you know they are pooped? I haven't left the house since Wednesday, after all the cooking, cleaning up, playing Jenga with the kids I got busy decorating the tree. It's almost complete! Yah! Then I'll move onto other areas with more trees.

It's an annual event for many to head to Crown Center for the Annual Lighting Ceremony. I personally have never been ground level. Many years ago we flew over the area with friends, it is truly a magical site. I borrowed these shots from a local newspaper, I normally don't borrow photos, I like taking my own, since I'm unable to get there, this is just as good. :-)) They were just too pretty not to share.

~ Happy Thanksgiving Everyone ~

I'm sure you think I must have gone off the deep end. Yes, same dinnerware as last week, I've just done a bit more tweaking. Although the table was fine before, you can see that HERE, after looking at the pictures I felt it needed just a bit more. Funny really, I serve buffet style, at least I got to play with the dishes more than once before they get put away for the season. lol

The deer don't seem to be floating on the table now. I added some bittersweet vine along with the runner.

The bittersweet and candle centerpiece seem to flow as one now.

A tad more stacking went on.....

After all it is Turkey day, so in honor I pulled out Celebration by Spode, pretty fitting huh? I've had them a few years, this will be the first time using them. :-))

In the background stands the Christmas tree. I brought it up on Sunday, the grandson requested I wait until he comes to help decorate. I'm so glad he still wants to, I'm sure those days are getting fainter by the year.

~ New Dogs Join the Family ~

Hi everyone, I know you are all bustling around trying to put finishing touches on things for Thursday. I have the pies to bake, and few other things and our preparations are ready.
I thought I would share a shot of the small buffet in the dining room, with it's lone pumpkin and candy corn before it's all put away and the Christmas finery comes out.

One of my last visits to Nell Hill's I purchased these darling bookends. If you've been following for a while you know I'm crazy about dog items, the obsession began a few years back and just keeps growing. :-))

How could you "not" love a face like this? The base is a deep cobalt blue and flows nicely in any of my rooms. The picture does not do it justice.

I haven't shown my "collection" of clocks, there are quite a few with a story behind each one. This little cutie was a Christmas gift from a family member many years ago. The darling dish was a gift from my girlfriend. Does she know my tastes or what?

All of you know my obsession with lamps. I've had this beauty for almost 10 years now. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it. I was fortunate the price could be negotiated, so it came home with me. lol The only change was the shade, I wasn't crazy about the shape and color of the original.

~ A Bit of Tweaking Here and There ~

Hello everyone,
I hope you had a fabulous weekend. Are you busy tweaking your menus, getting your tables ready for Turkey Day or enjoying a lazy Monday? My list of things to do is quite long day, I'm hoping to knock all of them out. In the mean time I wanted to share a little vignette I recently changed up.
The plate under the cloche dome had been there seemed like "forever". You can see the plate in the dome HERE. It seemed to work at the time, I'm glad I made the change. :-)) Sorry for the glare, I could not get a picture without it it seemed. :-(

The table the squirrel sat on has to be moved for the Christmas tree to go up, I've already started shuffling things around preparing for all the that "fun" decor. :-)) I moved the squirrel over on this sweet side table with these beautiful silver candlesticks. I found them recently in an antique store for $2.50 for the pair. Can you believe it? I almost didn't until she rang them up. Can you say "bargain"?

I love mixing the shiny silver with the muted tones of the squirrel and pine cone, takes it up a notch or two.

I always try to have a family photo sitting here and there. This time of year I get a bit melancholy, a little on the nostalgia side, this is Mother and Daddy's wedding picture. They are both gone now, I miss them terribly. There is so much I would love to share with Mother, I often wonder if she would be proud of what I've become and what I do for a living. She really wanted me to go into the health field. I took up accounting at her suggestion, not that I would say I enjoy it, my passion is in decorating, I'm so glad I have the shop as my "fun" job.. the accounting, that fills in the gap. lol

Out with the blue fruit plate and in with deer. I love this Spode plate.

I took the lid off for a better shot. Isn't he stately? The color tones flow much better than the fruit plate, I'm not sure why I hadn't done this sooner. Just a simple change with a big impact. :-))

I wanted to share the curly edge of the cloche dome. I'm thinking about painting it black? What do you think? Black or leave it as is? hmmmmmm

My daughter picked up the dog for me a few years back at Nell Hills in Briarcliff. At the time you could purchase just one, now you have to buy them as a pair, I'm looking for it's mate that faces the other direction. :-))

So there you have a little corner in the living area where I sit and read a few books and enjoy my coffee. After looking at these photos, I think it's time to move the blue plate hanging on the wall, I believe a couple of plates closer to the decor I'm using on the table. Another thing to add to the list. lol

~ Before It's Put Away ~

These past few weeks have just sped by so quickly. While in the kitchen the other day I noticed the pumpkin on top of the refrigerator and realized it's almost time to put it away. I'm already thinking ahead to decorating for Christmas, as I know many of you are. Have you started putting things out yet, or are you still in the planning stages?

Many of you may recall a while back I found a few Silver treasures for a song and a prayer. You can go HERE to see that day in action. :-)) When I display items I like to group like things together, it makes more of an impact. Although some of the items I found that day aren't in this vignette, I brought in other treasures. While taking pictures the first 2 or 3 I didn't care for at all, this is with the light on. The walls and book didn't seem to be so grainy...

This is with the light off... too grainy for my tastes. Do you have trouble with your pictures taking on a grainy effect or is it me and my camera? I'll be anxious to have your feedback.

The twisted silver goblet was such a find...

When getting out the pumpkins this year I wanted to kick things up a bit and display them just a tad on the "different" side. Normally they'll rest on books, a tabletop and sometimes a flower pot and a bit of Spanish Moss holds the pumpkins. When I found the silver urn a while back I knew it would be perfect for pumpkins, Christmas decor all sorts of things.

I've had the blue vase for years now, it's gone out to the garage sale box over a dozen times and I've pulled it out. I think it's trying to tell me something don't you? Anyhoo..... I think it's found it's forever home. :-))

I'm sure many of you are rushing around making all sorts of preparations for next week. Don't you love preparing for company? Hearing laughter in the house always makes my heart sing..... Although our gathering will be very small love will fill the house.

~ Shades of Brown for Thanksgiving ~

I've been so busy this past week time got away from me. I put together this tablescape on the fly this morning. I knew I wanted to use the brown-toned dishes with the berries, wasn't sure about the centerpiece. I've seen a lot of pumpkins being used as centerpieces this year. You know me I have to be a tad different. :-))

Starting with the brown tablecloth I built from there. I chose the wooden brown leaf chargers for the base of the brown toned leaf edged plates.

I am over the top with anything having to do with wildlife. Mr. P thinks I'm a bit more than touched in the head. lol. I've had these deer for a while, normally they reside in another room in the house. Once the tablescape started to come together they seem to fit in perfectly.

You might remember the acorn filled vase from this post HERE. I've enjoyed using it for the Fall decor, and looking forward to adding Christmas decor next weekend.

Gold bubbled stemware for your drink of choice. These were purchased a few years back at Big Lots for a song and a prayer. Don't you love a bargain?

With the table set, I'll put on a small turkey, spiral ham, candied sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, fried green beans, sweet corn and rolls. For dessert I'll bake a blackberry pie, apple pie and a strawberry pie.

This past weekend was just so much fun. I want to thank all of my Regular's and Welcome all the new ones that stopped by for my Open House. There was so much laughter, I believe good times were had by all. The shop certainly has to be revamped again. Thank you, Thank you , Thank you!! For those of you who didn't get to come this past weekend and enjoy the festivities, remember I'm open

Now onto a couple of "just fun" pictures. It got so busy in here on Saturday I didn't get a chance to snap many pictures. I did want to share a couple of those I did snap.

There's still beautiful Christmas ribbon for your Holiday decorating, and always on hand the burlap ribbon along with a few other bolts.

I have a couple of women who have been coming to the shop for 13 years, both their names are Marcia, they live in the same town a few miles from us, and are sisters-in-laws. They are just "fun" when they come in. I call them Marcia 1 and Marcia 2. This is Marcia 1 playing on the floor with the grandchildren while Marcia 2 shops.. :-)) The small wheelbarrow is full of toys left over from when my Bailey was small. I'm so glad I hung onto it. The toys keep the children entertained while the Moms shop. It's always fun to see the smiles on those little one's faces.

Looks like it might be a pretty intent conversation. :-))

Open House Part II

Day 1 is now behind us, WOW! What a day. It was busy around here from 8:30 on. I'll share a few highlights with you.
As you can see I baked and baked. I have all sorts of candies and cookies for you to choose from. The packages under the tree are wrapped in white paper with black and white ribbon, I made the treats to flow with the colors of the tree. You can see a picture of the large tree HERE

~ Welcome to My 13th Holiday Open House

Hi Everyone, I'm so glad you stopped by for my 13th Holiday Open House Event. It's hard to believe it's that time of the year.
Each year it's a challenge to come up with something "different" for the outside of the shop to welcome all of you. Some things change others are standards I use each year. Last year the arbor was all "twigged" up and woodsy. This year I opted for a bit for of a classy look.

For those of you that came last year the portico was decorated in an entirely different manner. If you care to go back and look at those pictures you can go HERE to see them. I would have liked to have used the berries again this year, but the trees didn't produce, so moved on to plan B. :-))

Looking down you'll see two tables set up fairly close together. I've had to do a bit of shuffling. You see on Friday I'll have 2 gals set up out here selling their fine goods. One will have lots of Primitives and the other one Vintage jewelry. I sure hope I can keep myself inside selling and not outside buying. lol

This table normally sits out a bit and has the umbrella for the summer. Not to leave anything undone, I used a white tablecloth, added a grapevine wreath, a few silver Christmas bulbs, lantern filled with Reindeer Moss and my candles that run off batteries. To soften and dress the edge of the grapevine wreath I wrapped some of my iced twig around the edges, just a bit more layering and texture.

You know I love my dishes. This year as the centerpiece I chose one of the candles on a timer with the hurricane sleeve to wrap it's beauty. Standing tall are 2 of the Vintage looking foil Santas. I'll share more of this tablescape on Thursday.

If you go back HERE you can see how I decorated the birdbath for Fall. To keep the Bling fever going, I added the iced spray with a glass urn and a candle on a timer. I'll try to take an evening shot to show you how it sparkles. It is just too pretty. :-))

To finish dressing the area I filled the cast iron pot full of pine cones. These all have special memories for me. A lot of them Mr. P and I picked up many years ago in Georgia when he was trucking. We brought home sacks of them. A few of the others are from a dear friend and her darling children. I can still see their darling smiles the day they brought them by. Memories are priceless!

And last but not least, Mr. Murphy dog was trailing me the whole time I was shooting pictures. This face seems to say, are we finished yet? Bless his heart for the next 3 days he'll be confined to the garage. He wouldn't hurt a soul, but his barking to alert you someone is here drives a person insane. lol

~ The Count Down Begins ~

This past week has been full of many duties, along with the regular household things, I've been putting the finishing touches on the shop for the Holiday Open House. I still cannot believe it's that time of year and it's here. With the shop being ready except for tweaking here and there, it was time to begin the annual baking of goodies I serve each year. This year there will be quite the variety to choose from, these are just a few of the ingredients I've used..

Lots, of chocolate pieces, toffee, and peanut butter. Quite a few bars of almond bark. Any guesses anyone?

First pan of yummy peanut butter fudge. I'll tell ya this stuff is just too good not to taste, so taste I did. lol I'll share the recipe next week when I have a bit more time. It is so easy and never fails!

I've set the table for all the goodies, what do you think? Each of the glass stands a gift from my girlfriend for my birthday this year, will be full to overflowing as well as the silver cake stand.

I didn't want to leave the table unadorned, so added the greenery with pine cones, the new jingle bell garland, the darling lamp with the candy cane sleeve, it can be changed out for the seasons, and the gorgeous iced Santa.

This years tree is full to overflowing with glass icicles, vintage ornaments....

Beautiful limed Atstible stems to add more bling as well as make the tree appear more full.

Every tree needs a package or two. With all the silver and touch of red and I wanted to keep the wrapping simple. I chose white paper, used black ribbon on a few and the new checked ribbon I just got into the shop on others.

This is the weekend we turn back our clocks. I have "many", I won't bore you with all of them. I started collecting them "many" years ago. It takes me a while to turn all of them back, so I'll start today, by evening they'll all be turned back ready until Spring when we Spring ahead.. I'll start in the office with the Ballard look alike...

Onto the Railroad clock, two sided that's 4 batteries, yikes!!

Hi Everyone, I know it's been like "forever" since I've posted. I was bound and determined to sit here for a bit today to bring you up to speed.
I'm busy trying to getting ready for my Annual Holiday Open House Event. Man alive this year has flown. I cannot believe it's here. This year's theme is a Vintage Christmas. Anything that sparkles, that brings back a fond memory we had as children. Happier times, time that moved a lot more slowly.

~ Tiny Bits of Fall Here and There ~

I feel like a bouncing ball these past few days. I've finished the fall decorating in our home, and have started the Christmas decorating in the shop. Our temperatures this weekend are suppose to be phenomenal, my plans are to get the outside greenery hung around the shop. What are your plans for the weekend?
Sometimes small touches make more of an impact than larger ones. I added gourds to the silver tray for a punch of fall and color.

Just for fun, an ice bucket full of sunflowers.

One of my favorite squirrels was brought in from another room, adding a couple of pumpkins for color tops off the vignette. The little squirrel really needs some nuts on his tray, but I felt they would get lost against all the dark wood. However, nothing stays the same around here for long, the next picture of this vignette may look entirely different. lol

~ A Girl's Just Gotta Have Fun ~

WoW ! It's been a busy few days around here. You know how it is when you have 4 thousand projects going at once, OK maybe not that many but quite a few. Some were accomplished others on hold in the "still pending file", a few others are in the "dream file". I'm sure you have those sorts of files, what would we do without them ? Would be a pretty boring life huh?

OK... on with today's post. :-)) This time of year I try to make Saturday shopping more fun than it normally is. Naturally the coffee pot is always on...

Do you drink yours black? Need a bit of cream or sugar???

If I have time I like to add a few goodies to eat. This weeks goodies were chocolate chip bars.

To add to the fun this past weekend I had a treasure hunt of sorts. I put 2 "blue dots" on "something", and you had to search for it. If found you won the item of the day. This gal thought if she used the magnifying glass she might locate the treasure.

Are they discussing the thrill of the hunt, planning their strategy or just visiting? Inquiring minds want to know..

No! It's here! I found it.... Terry's sister found the Mixture candle in the Vintage glass with the 2 blue dots. Yah!

Isn't she a cutie??? I fell in love with her sweater jacket!

The group!! Terry the second from the right had set the day up a couple of weeks ago. Terry says they normally have more that get together for a day, maybe next time it will work out for all of them to come. These girls know how to have a great time, we laughed and laughed, they were just so much fun!

Terry, thank you for bringing the girls out. I hope you enjoyed your visit as much as I did having you. Hope to see all of you soon, don't forget the Holiday Open House is right around the corner. Call the girls let's have another fun-filled day in the shop.

Mother Nature has sure been showing off her beauty these past few days. I've seen alot of those beautiful pictures across blogland. I'm hoping to get out in our area this weekend to see if I can get some local shots to share with you.
The Austree trees were planted about 12 years ago, fast growing trees they line the drive before you turn into the shop. The other day while out walking I noticed 1 lone tree starting to turn. Yes folks, out of 10 trees only 1 has decided to share it's beauty with us.

Naturally Murphy wants to be a part of the walk. :-))

~ Tea on the Porch ~

This time of year with the days getting shorter and "eventually" cooler, dining on the front porch is getting far and few between. I like to take every opportunity I can to enjoy the great outdoors. Today let's head to the front porch for a spot of tea.

I switched back and forth between the Toile tea set and a heavier brown with acorns. With the light breeze blowing I wanted to keep the setting light so we're using the English Brown Toile, you know how I love my Toile.

A dainty cup and saucer to fill and use, it will help chase away the blues.

The simplicity of the glass candle urn becomes a timeless decorating staple.

I used these darling acorns and nuts as a filler around the candle. The candle is the infamous candle on a timer. I love the scent of a candle burning and use them as well, but when the wind is blowing outside these beauties are perfect and safe.

Sugar anyone?

I didn't have a solid brown tablecloth, or even black, I wanted something fallish, warm and inviting. After looking around the house I chose the throw we usually use inside to snuggle under while watching t.v. After a quick laundering outside it came. I think the selection was a good one. I hope this inspires you to think outside the box and use the "unexpected" for your tablecloths.

The single leaf napkin ring dresses the gold and black napkins.

Please help yourself. On Monday I spent the day in the kitchen, making banana bread for Mr. P and chocolate chip cookie bars for Bailey then meatloaf for dinner. I saved back some goodies just for you.

While munching on a cookie I brought out a book for you to look through. This is a great book in the study of setting traditional tables with beautiful antiques, tableware and accessories.

Stay a while, I'll pour you some more tea....

My goodness yes, you must have another cookie or two....

~ A Dab of This ~ A Dab of That~

When I started pulling out the fall decor this year I decided to change a few things, and eliminate a few others. The basket on the wall was done differently last year. This year I chose to leave the fern and add to it.

I love to use pheasant feathers in my home. We live in a farm community and often see wildlife in the front yard, maybe not pheasants but turkeys, deer a few coyotes and naturally the possums and coons.

Faux leaves, some berry stems along with the feathers a few sticks from the yard and I have a basket to make you smile when you head out into the garage. :-))

The icebox was a birthday present from Mr. P over 30 years ago. It's floated around the house and landed here for the past few years. The inside houses the over flow of collected dishware. That's a post for another day. :-))

Using a cast iron urn with some Spanish moss gives the pumpkin a bit more presence.

The leaf shaped dish perfect for this time of year holds some wonderful smelling potpourri. I wish the scent could come through your monitors.

So there you have a bit more fall decorating going on around here, with a "hint" of an upcoming post.

~ The Kitchen Gets A Bit of Fall ~

The fireplace in the kitchen is always a fun place to decorate, not large in size I can either go over the top or keep it semi-simple. Sometimes less is more, in this case I think the pumpkins and plate speak for themselves.

Even though I chose to go semi-simple this year I like to use layers. Layering the pumpkin plate in front of the cream platter gives it more presence. If you want to showcase your plates try this technique you'll be amazed at the difference it will make in your vignette.

A couple of weeks ago I played "hookie" from the shop to take Mr. P for a drive. He'd been cooped up in the house seemed like forever. The fall days are just too nice to stay inside. We took off and ended up in a couple of antique stores a short distance from us. He walked around for a bit, then headed to the truck for a rest, bless his heart his legs just won't carry him for long periods of time.
The first store didn't net me anything. Right next door was another antique store, I asked if he felt like sitting for just a bit longer before heading back home, he said he was fine to take my time. :-)) I sauntered through the first 3 or 4 rows and didn't find a single thing that really screamed take me home. A couple of rows over I hit the jack pot! A booth that was closing out and everything was 50% off ! Yippee!! Right smack dab in the middle was a shelf full of silver. Now I didn't get greedy and take everything. I did however end up with 4 beautiful pieces. Very dirty, but I could sure see the potential !

Can you see the potential? I could barely contain myself. lol

I brought them outside the next day, so I could bring their true beauty out.

Can you say sparkle? With each stroke I took with the polishing rag I smiled even more.

What did I give for these beauties? $18.00. I would say "bargain". As we were leaving Mr. P wanted to know if we would stop at the ice cream place at the foot of the hill. You see this ice cream place has been there for as long as I can remember, famous for it's malts and ice cream cones. I assured him many times that I would stop. After stopping and getting his pecan malt and myself a small chocolate ice cream cone, we headed for home. After only driving about 3 miles or so this is what happened next.....

So... as the story goes, one shouldn't play hookie. My "bargain" of silver turned out to be very expensive, I ended up having to buy 4 new tires. :-((

~ Not Just For The Birds ~

Are you still putting out your fall decorations or have you finished? I'm still playing with different areas around my home and the shop. :-))

I'm sure many of you have birdbaths sitting around your yard somewhere. This little beauty used to sit up by the arbor with the New Dawn Rose Bush. Monday of this week I decided to move it. After moving it I realized it was ready for a paint job. (searched archives could not find a before picture, trust me it was "ready" for a paint job). I used High Performance by Rust-Oleum, High Gloss Black. I'm hoping the High Performance lasts a little longer than the regular spray.
The bird bath is metal and has a small bird to the back side of it. I wanted to bring it down by the shop door to add a bit more of a welcome. :-))

I started with a grapevine wreath, then added some faux leaves. The larger faux gourds added the needed weight to the lighter feel of the pumpkins.

These are so sweet, purchased from a local vendor here in town.

Don't you love the vibrant colors of fall?

Except for the purchase of the smaller pumpkins and striped pumpkins for $3.99, I used things I already had on hand, not a bad price to pay for adding a "wow" factor to your entry.

Just to the left of the birdbath sits a pair of wrought iron chairs I've had for almost 33 years. Can you say vintage? lol. They also got a wirebrush taken to them, a wash down and a good coat of fresh paint. I pulled the small table from the front porch, another coat of fresh paint and Voila' another small sitting area. Not one to leave a tabletop empty I used the small cast iron urn, added a bit of raffia and one of the ghosts pumpkins.

If you've been a visitor to the blog for awhile, you know I tend to go overboard on some things. OK!
So it's a lot of things. lol Over the course of the past few years I've fallen in love with animals to decorate with around my home, inside and out. This darling squirrel seemed to fill the bill as far as finishing off this sweet vignette area. Made of resin I sprayed him with a sealer to help protect him from the outside elements.

Can you say cute? After looking at the pictures I think he needs some eyes.

There you have another area dressed up fall. I hope this inspires you to look at your outdoor decor in a different way, think outside the box. In my case a metal birdbath that didn't hold water, became a new decorating piece for the entrance outside my shop. My mind is already racing ahead for the holidays, the vision I have for this area I hope is going to "wow" you. ;-)

~ Adding Some Warmth to the Bench ~

While there are lots of changes going on inside the shop, the days are just far too pretty to be inside "all" day long. While walking Miss Scooter I realized the bench as you walk into the shop needed a bit of warmth and character, it looked a tad lonely. The lamp posts have been decorated for a while, you can see that post HERE. Look way in the background you'll see the bench looks lonely.

I added a fall throw, lighter in color so it would show up against the walnut stain of the bench. Adding the lantern was the obvious choice for me. I used the black and cream burlap ribbon on the lamp posts, to tie it together I tied a half bow on top of the lantern. Wrapping the twiggy vine around the lantern gave it a bit more character.

During the holidays I like to use the candles on a timer. With the use of the pumpkins this vignette will take you through Thanksgiving.

I fell in love with the burly twisty grapevine shaped pumpkins, perfect for decorating with outdoors. The weather is only going to enhance it's beauty.

~ Shades of Green ~

With Fall in the air it's time to pull out the Fall dishes. I'm always inspired when I visit every one's tablescapes on Thursdays. I go back and look at mine and think why didn't I do this and why didn't I do that. This week is no exception, with all the pictures uploaded it was way too late to change the game plan for this table. lol.

Our leaves are finally starting to turn in our area, they are far prettier than I thought they would be as hot and dry as our Summer was. The leaf and acorn edged wooden chargers set the theme.

The tablecloth is a bonus for this tablescape, the shades of green and gold flow nicely with the dessert plates. The small Chick a Dee salt and pepper shakers add a bit of whimsy.

I used to set at the sewing machine all the time, for some reason that past time is exactly that, a past time. I made the napkins quite a while back, with the help of the Serger they were made quickly for an event I was having at the time. The napkins were pulled through these burnished colored acorn rings.

The green glass dish edge mocks the edge of leaves, a gift from my Betty many years ago.

The two toned metal trophy shaped urn takes place as an off centered centerpiece.

This looks like a hot mess folks, it really isn't I could not get a decent picture of the flowing grasses. Do you ever have one of those days? Where every picture you take just doesn't suit? I played and played with this baby and took about 40 pictures and then caved and stuck with this one. lol

The green bowl tops the stack of fall like dishes, later to be filled with Cabbage Soup, recipe from Stone Gable. I had read the recipe off to Mr.P the other night, he says that sounds good. With his appetite the way it is I'll make anything if he'll eat it. Yvonne said this made a huge pot, boy she wasn't kidding, next time I'll cut it in half. The soup turned out delicious, Yvonne thanks for sharing this great recipe.

Flatware from Target continues the Green theme.

Pulling the brown swirled glass into the mix helps draw the eye to the rich brown colored charger and brown mercury glass candle, adding another element to the table.

Vintage depression glass, again a gift from my Betty will hold pats of butter for the hot french bread.
